Ignite Camp 2024: My Final Camp

Ignite Camp Logos, 2004 - 2024.

2024 was my 20th Ignite Camp.

Excluding 2020, which was canceled, 2024 marked exactly 20 years of Ignite Camp for me, The Media Buff.

Each and every year of Ignite Camp has been a creative outlet for me, and a chance to have a BLAST with the staff and volunteers at Eagle Church.

The 2024 theme was REFLECT, giving us the opportunity to look back and play on the theme of “20 Years” through several elements.

Elements included award show sessions complete with red carpets and “Iggy” awards, highlighting top games from throughout the years (shout out Chicken in a Henhouse!). A Rules video that highlighted favorite rules from throughout the years (yikes, there were some bad ones). And a collage of logos that really took me down memory lane, taking me right back to those locations and those people that made Ignite Camp so amazing.

The logo for camp was a community production, with input from a few people. I took the logo and made it unique through a few elements only I would probably ever remember. The 2 stars in the sky and the moon were intended to represent 20 years - 2 stars and a round moon, or “0”. From there, the logo elements were reflected in the water and elements included local trees and the Michigan dunes we’ve enjoyed each year.

Not only did we do a camp shirt this year, but we did a pre-camp shirt with the collage of logos on the back and an anniversary logo on the front. The anniversary logo echoed one of our favorite camp logos from 2014.

Promotion for the 20th Ignite Camp incorporated this triangular element from the logo. The element carried over into the recap for camp as well.

Throughout the week of camp I know there might be miscellaneous videos people come up with to create during camp, to be shown at camp. This year I had everyone do their best to have us know what videos we’ll be doing at camp ahead of time so we can prepare and be ready with our time. Below is one such video, playing off the 2023 Behind the Music and the 2022 Thrift Camp video, both featuring Jay the rapper. One last video was a fun one where we ran around camp with a red carpet having people do their best red carpet walk, also shown below.

Some of my favorite camp shots have come from the use of a drone, GoPro helmet camp for blobbing and other GoPro shots. One camp we held several years back used a TON of GoPro footage because, you know, it was cool.

A few months after Ignite Camp 2024 had come to a close, something I had actually been debating for a few years was decided for me. I was no longer needed in my role at Ignite Camp going forward. It was a simple, unceremonious meeting, amicable for both parties. Read more about my journey with Ignite Camp.

I wish those taking on the mantle of Ignite Camp in 2025 and beyond, the BEST of luck. As camp is planned, meetings occur, logos and videos are created; I’ll be praying. Praying for creativity, stamina, and for God to work through each and every item.

Most especially, I’ll pray that the students who come to Ignite Camp have an encounter with God that will forever change their lives. Just like mine was changed.

I want to thank so many people for inviting me to help with this juggernaut of an event, year after year, and letting me thrive.

I especially want to thank a few individuals that made camp so much fun: Ian S, Liz L, Ian B, Jess S, and most importantly my wife Meredith. I thank you all for your encouragement and willingness to trust me over the years.
